New Shopping Center in Ridgeland MS

A new 11,000-square-foot shopping center, Northpark Crossing, is sprouting up next door to Mazzio’s Pizza by Northpark Mall in Ridgeland, Ms. What looks like a bunch of stacked steel beams now will be a finished building housing up to seven tenants by March. The center will include retail stores and possibly a small restaurant, said Houston developer Greg Mathis.
In order to attract high-end shoppers, Mathis is seeking high-end tenants. “I’m trying to do a little more of an upscale tenant mix,” he said. Mathis cannot release the names of potential tenants, but he has talked with men’s and women’s clothing retailers so far.
The center costs right around $1 million, said Mike Harris, project manager for Richland MS-based J.A. Moss Construction, the firm handling Northpark Crossing construction. Work began in September and should be complete by March 20, Harris said. “It’s going to be two different colors of brick – a charcoal and a tan – and beige stucco.”
The shopping center is being built about 30 feet high. “I just wanted it to have a real presence, really punch it out,” Mathis said.Another unique feature of the design of Northpark Crossing is its large storefronts. Because stores will be built relatively wide, depths will be shallow compared to that of the average retail store, Mathis said. While the developer usually builds in Houston, he was attracted to the metro area’s bustling County Line Road retail district. The area includes the mall, Wal-Mart, restaurants and several shopping centers. “There’s some nice centers up and down County Line Road,” he said. “It’s the best retail street in the whole city.” Metro Jackson continues to grow with new projects springing up in Madison, Brandon, Ridgeland and Jackson MS.

New Kroger Opening in Madison MS
Categories: Community Information posted on January 29th, 2008
There have been a lot of firsts on the west side of I-55 in Madison since construction of Colony Crossing began five years ago – first gas station, convenience store, fast-food restaurants, fine dining spot, a hotel and a wide variety of retailers. Now, residents can cross grocery store off their list of needs. Kroger opens its second store in Madison and the first grocery on the west side of the interstate beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday. A ribbon cutting will be held two hours later at 10 a.m., when the store will present donations to Madison Crossing Elementary School, Madison County Sheriff Department D.E.A.D., or Drugs End All Dreams program, and the Madison Fire Department.“This is something this community needs,” Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler said. “It’s great to have a major grocery retailer opening on the west side. It will be very successful.”At 115 Colony Crossing, the store will be open 24 hours a day, Chef John Burns will be part of the store’s staff, daily preparing meat and seafood dishes for customers to sample. “He’ll have party suggestions, answer customer questions and offer cooking techniques,” Kroger spokesman Whitney Atkins said. He’ll be working in the European meat case, which is unique to the new Madison store, she said. The produce section will offer more than 50 organic varieties of fruits and vegetables, Atkins said. In addition, the store’s “Nature’s Market” offers more than 3,200 items of organic and natural foods, plus a resource center that contains recipes, she said. There will be a Coffee Café the center of the store. A variety of ready-to-eat foods will be available in the store’s restaurant, its Sandwich Station, the Soup Bar or Sushi Island, where chefs will prepare sushi daily.Unique to the store is the personal and beauty care section that is designed with a department store ambience, Atkins said. Otheramenities will be a pharmacy with a drive-through window, a floral shop with a “build-a-bouquet” section for customers to create their own arrangements and photo area with seating. The manager of the Colony Crossing store is Mike Fuller, who has 33 years of service with Kroger. The new store has 46,024 square feet, about 4,000 more than the existing store on U.S. 51, which is scheduled to undergo renovations. No date has been set for that work to begin. The west side of I-55 at Ridgeland gets a grocery store in March. The Fresh Market will open March 5 in Renaissance shopping center at Old Agency Road and Highland Colony Parkway. Each store in The Fresh Market chain is designed with the atmosphere of an old world European market.

Your Home Tips

Alarm Systems:
One of the best investments a homeowner can make…
Few industries enjoy a high positive customer relationship like that of alarm companies. According to a study done by Dr. Simon Hakim, director of the Center for Competitive Government at Temple University, 94 percent of alarm owners are satisfied with their systems. With one in five homes currently electronically protected, that?s a pretty amazing statistic….
Alarm Systems: Home Security for Renters…
Owning a home may be the American Dream, but the American reality is that most people’s first home is a rental. And the number of people who choose to rent as a permanent housing arrangement is on the rise, according to national statistics….
Alarm Systems: Keep Kids in and Bad Guys Out with Home Security System…
Millions of American kids come home to or leave an empty house every day. Yet many don’t fit the stereotype of a “latchkey kid” – a child in a single parent household whose custodial parent is at work when the school day ends or begins….
Carpet: Choose your style…
Carpet has become one of the nation?s most popular floor coverings because it provides additional insulation, reduces sound and gives off an appearance of comfort and warmth. Today, carpet is made from a variety of products and is easier to care for with most lines offering soil, stain, odor and static resistant options….
Carpet: Finding Great Rugs Easier and at a Discount…
Many elements must work together to create a remarkable room. There is the color scheme, furniture, decorations, and of course, the rug on the floor. Don?t overlook the significance of the one thing that could tie the whole room together! Shopping for a rug can be time consuming and frustrating. Going to stores with limited inventory just to flip through heavy rugs to return empty-handed is disappointing….
Easing Into A Move: One of life’s greatest stresses…
Moving is considered one of life?s greatest stresses, especially given that it involves leaving behind the comfort of familiar surroundings, friends and routines. While the emotional challenges associated with a move are inevitable, planning out a careful move can alleviate some of the discomfort. If possible, try to make a moving plan at least six to eight weeks prior to your actual moving day….
Moving Service: Takes a Load Off and Delivers…
You finally got that big job offer and have to move to another state. Relocating requires packing up all your worldly possessions and finding a new place to live. It?s a difficult thing to do by yourself so where do you begin? There are so many moving companies, how do you know the right one for you? There is so much to do, what if you forget something? To save yourself time and money, try going to one place first and let them do all the footwork for you….
Moving: Rent the Right Truck for your Move…
Moving should be an exciting time ? you?re off to a new apartment, your first home, maybe moving up to a larger home. But for many people, moving turns into a stressful, aggravating experience. It doesn?t have to be that way. Some advance planning, a little research and the right attitude can combine to make your next move the best one ever….
Energy Efficient: Make Your Home Energy-Efficient…
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Americans spend an average of $1400 a year on energy bills, 45 percent of that comes from the heating and cooling of their home. Increasing the efficiency of your heating and cooling appliances can substantially reduce your annual costs up to 30 percent per year. Even more importantly, making your home energy-efficient helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improves the quality of our air….
Fencing: Designing your landscape…
Fencing can play a key role in the landscape of one?s home. Its purpose can be as simple as keeping the family dog in or as important as keeping young children out, especially from hidden dangers like a pool. The U.S. fencing industry is a billion dollar market which continues to grow more than five percent a year. What once was limited to chain link and wood products has grown to include PVC and vinyl fencing….
Furniture Style: Be uncompromising…
Shopping for furniture can be as daunting as shopping for the right car and nearly as expensive. The shopping process often entails lying on dozens of beds, reclining on hundreds of overstuffed chairs and upholstered sofas, pulling out numerous dresser drawers or sitting on an abundance of decorative wood dining chairs. Choosing the right furniture piece or room suit is a quest, but the adventure should be as exciting for you as the day your new piece of furniture is delivered….
Home Electronics: Are you ready for a home theater?…
Few shoppers can pass by the big-screen television display at their local electronics store without stepping back and imagining one in their own home. Package that television together with four speakers, a subwoofer for bass projection, and a DVD/CD/MP3 player and you?ve constructed your own home theater system….
Home Exteriors: New options & traditional favorites…
You need only look back at the story of The Three Little Pigs to know that a home’s exterior not only adds to its’ beauty but is a factor in determining its? strength and durability against inclement winds and storms. In fact, a study released in 2004 by the Wind Science and Engineering Research Center at Texas Tech University states that “homes built with brick offer dramatically more protection from wind-blown debris than homes built with vinyl or fiber-cement siding.”…
Home Inspections: One of the best investments you can make…
Whether you?re purchasing a new or existing home, consider the benefits of a home inspection performed by a certified or licensed inspector. The purchase of a home is the biggest investment people make. It not only involves acquiring a significant asset, it may also mean taking on additional problems as well. While home inspectors are limited in their scope, they can offer peace of mind to a new homeowner by assessing some of a home?s major componenets….
Home Theater: Transforming home entertainment…
Over the years, the world of home entertainment has radically changed. Twenty-five years ago, only a small percentage of households in the U.S. had cable television, and VCRs were merely a luxury item. Today, most U.S. households get at least 50 channels and have a good-sized TV accompanied by a variety of electronic components. Many people are opting to create their own home theater systems, a combination of electronic components designed to recreate the experience of watching a movie in a theater….
Insuring Your Home: Lowering Your Premium…
When purchasing a home, most mortgage companies require the buyer to have homeowners insurance as a condition for receiving the loan. According to the Insurance Information Institute, the average cost per year for a standard homeowners policy in 2004 was $608. While standard homeowners policies will cover the structure of the home and its contents against fire, theft, and some natural disasters, (excluding floods, earthquakes, landslides, mudslides or sinkholes), the amount of coverage varies. Even if you?re not in the market for a new home, it’s a good idea to review your policy to make sure your coverage is in line with your home?s current appraised value….
Inventory: Now A Concern…
If you want to see a business owner cringe, ask them about their inventory. They will begin talking in a language only a few souls on the planet will understand. They will mention industry buzz words like: Inventory Turns, FIFO, LIFO, Cycle Counting and on, and on, and on. If you are still standing there by the time they get to COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) I admire your resolve….
Kitchen Upgrades: Stainless is back…
According to a poll commissioned by PBS? well known This Old House series, nearly a third of respondents (32%) cited a high-end kitchen as their dream renovation. The kitchen is no longer the place where mom retires to cook the family dinner. Today, kitchens serve as the heart of the home, and many Americans are looking for ways to make it more comfortable….
Landscaping: Turning your vision into plan…
A nice yard not only makes for a good neighbor, it helps to enhance property values as well. A high quality landscape design can actually improve the appearance of a building or home by adding warmth and character….
Landscaping: Grass that Stays Green, Even When Mother Nature Goes Dry…
Up to 80 percent of water used around the home during the summer is for outdoor use — primarily to irrigate gardens and lawns. To keep lawns green and lush during the long, hot summer, most people pull out the hoses, turn on the sprinklers and pour on the water. Household water consumption has increased drastically in the past 30 years, and the combination of increased water demands, rising water bills and drought-induced watering restrictions has prompted many homeowners to rethink their approach to lawn care….
Landscaping: Grass That’s Great for Your Lawn and the Environment…
If you?re concerned about the effect of weed killers and fertilizers on your children, pets and the environment, you should know that a natural way to obtain a lush, green lawn is to plant zoysia grass. Zoysia is a durable, spreading turf grass that grows into a permanent, perennial lawn that naturally resists insects and diseases. Zoysia’s deep, vigorous root system rarely needs watering, staying green even in the heat of summer….

Madison Ms. Voted Top 10 Cities
Categories: Community Information posted on January 16th, 2008
MADISON MS NAMED ONE OF
AMERICA’S TOP 10 CITIES FOR FAMILIES
Family Circle has named Madison, MS one of the Top Ten Towns for Families in America. Family Circle Magazine, working in conjunction with On Board, a New York City based research firm, delved into the things American most want in a hometown. Their results culminated from “a first of its kind investigation to identity the best communities across the country that combine big city opportunities with suburban charm.” They sought out “locations that offer an ideal blend of good jobs, top rated schools, wide open spaces and a lot less stress.” Their findings and the ten cities appeared in the August 2007 issue of Family Circle.
The Family Circle and On Board’s ten top towns came from “a list of 1,850 places with populations between 15,000 and 150,000.” From that list, “800 localities were selected based on family-friendly criteria including low crime rate, health care, air quality, green space, schools, and jobs and Madison, MS was selected to rub shoulders with 9 other top rated cities. Family Circle assessed which towns best met those standards and ranked them according to state. The winners were selected from the highest-rated towns in the top 10 states nationwide.
Madison, MS Mayor, Mary Hawkins Butler said she was humbled by the announcement. “It is an honor to be chosen as on of Family Circle’s inner circle of cities. Their definition of ideal hometown life is very true to our daily dreams and desires for Madison. Family Circle said that in all the ten cities selected, Moms and Dads are hands on – they volunteer in schools and coach sports. Of course, volunteerism is what really makes a community. Churches and the volunteer spirit are in essence the backbone of any town. I salute Family Circle for understanding this and for caring about hometown America in such a special way. I am grateful for all the benefits that Mississippi brings in to the life of every community. This is the people’s award.”
Congratulations, Madison, MS, you are a beauty Queen among cities!
