Bainbridge Local News
Categories: Community Information, Madison posted on February 3rd, 2010
Bainbridge developers have requested that the square footage for new homes be dropped from 1600 square feet to 1400 square feet. The reason for the request is based on the slower real estate market. Developers are hoping that homes in the 1400 square foot range will attract more buyers in that price range.
They say the quality of the homes will stay the same as well as keeping property values up.
Those that oppose the idea say that lowering the square footage will hurt property values in the subdivision as well as Bainbridge.
.
Griffin said he supports the change because it allows people that would not otherwise be able to afford to live there, go ahead and possibly make that that move.
Bainbridge is a 266 acre development with 502 planned lots. It is in phase three of an eight phase development.
The Federation of Madison County Homeowner Associations (FMCHA) will be discussing the issue in their meeting next Tuesday.
FMCHA president Al Sage says its unfair to homeowners who bought their homes under conditions they thought would be maintained.
Sage said their group is hoping to convince supervisors into making a process that invites more public input when changes are proposed.
