The Township at Colony Park, Ridgeland MS
Categories: Community Information posted on February 27th, 2008

The Township at Colony Park is a uniquely master planned mixed-use
community conveniently located on approximately 95-acres along Highland
Colony Parkway just north of Steed Road in Ridgeland, MS, at the center
of the upcoming East/West I-55 Interchange. This unique development has
been planned using the development styles of New Urbanism and
Traditional Neighborhood Development, quality of life movements that
promote the neighborhood as a vital component of “community”. The
Township offers an alternative to suburban sprawl by providing
residences, public spaces, shopping, offices, and recreation within
walking distance of a vibrant town center.
Office, retail, fitness, restaurant, and residential products are
planned around a traditional street grid, two-seven acre lakes and a
nature area, encouraging pedestrian activity, resident interaction, and
a sense of “place” and community. Multiple Pocket Parks add amenity and
function as convenient and useable green spaces.
The Township at Colony Park is being developed with the utmost in
consideration for the area’s natural features, appropriate scale and
design, desired amenities, and the 1,000s of current rooftops in the
area to provide convenient retail and office space to serve the area.
As a unique environment for homeowners, business people, shoppers,
and visitors, The Township at Colony Park will provide the most
pleasant experiences for daily life and work.

Northpark Crossing, Shopping Ridgeland, Ms

New Shopping Center in Ridgeland MS

A new 11,000-square-foot shopping center, Northpark Crossing, is sprouting up next door to Mazzio’s Pizza by Northpark Mall in Ridgeland, Ms. What looks like a bunch of stacked steel beams now will be a finished building housing up to seven tenants by March. The center will include retail stores and possibly a small restaurant, said Houston developer Greg Mathis.
In order to attract high-end shoppers, Mathis is seeking high-end tenants. “I’m trying to do a little more of an upscale tenant mix,” he said. Mathis cannot release the names of potential tenants, but he has talked with men’s and women’s clothing retailers so far.
The center costs right around $1 million, said Mike Harris, project manager for Richland MS-based J.A. Moss Construction, the firm handling Northpark Crossing construction. Work began in September and should be complete by March 20, Harris said. “It’s going to be two different colors of brick – a charcoal and a tan – and beige stucco.”
The shopping center is being built about 30 feet high. “I just wanted it to have a real presence, really punch it out,” Mathis said.Another unique feature of the design of Northpark Crossing is its large storefronts. Because stores will be built relatively wide, depths will be shallow compared to that of the average retail store, Mathis said. While the developer usually builds in Houston, he was attracted to the metro area’s bustling County Line Road retail district. The area includes the mall, Wal-Mart, restaurants and several shopping centers. “There’s some nice centers up and down County Line Road,” he said. “It’s the best retail street in the whole city.” Metro Jackson continues to grow with new projects springing up in Madison, Brandon, Ridgeland and Jackson MS.

New Kroger Opening in Madison MS
Categories: Community Information posted on January 29th, 2008
There have been a lot of firsts on the west side of I-55 in Madison since construction of Colony Crossing began five years ago – first gas station, convenience store, fast-food restaurants, fine dining spot, a hotel and a wide variety of retailers. Now, residents can cross grocery store off their list of needs. Kroger opens its second store in Madison and the first grocery on the west side of the interstate beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday. A ribbon cutting will be held two hours later at 10 a.m., when the store will present donations to Madison Crossing Elementary School, Madison County Sheriff Department D.E.A.D., or Drugs End All Dreams program, and the Madison Fire Department.“This is something this community needs,” Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler said. “It’s great to have a major grocery retailer opening on the west side. It will be very successful.”At 115 Colony Crossing, the store will be open 24 hours a day, Chef John Burns will be part of the store’s staff, daily preparing meat and seafood dishes for customers to sample. “He’ll have party suggestions, answer customer questions and offer cooking techniques,” Kroger spokesman Whitney Atkins said. He’ll be working in the European meat case, which is unique to the new Madison store, she said. The produce section will offer more than 50 organic varieties of fruits and vegetables, Atkins said. In addition, the store’s “Nature’s Market” offers more than 3,200 items of organic and natural foods, plus a resource center that contains recipes, she said. There will be a Coffee Café the center of the store. A variety of ready-to-eat foods will be available in the store’s restaurant, its Sandwich Station, the Soup Bar or Sushi Island, where chefs will prepare sushi daily.Unique to the store is the personal and beauty care section that is designed with a department store ambience, Atkins said. Otheramenities will be a pharmacy with a drive-through window, a floral shop with a “build-a-bouquet” section for customers to create their own arrangements and photo area with seating. The manager of the Colony Crossing store is Mike Fuller, who has 33 years of service with Kroger. The new store has 46,024 square feet, about 4,000 more than the existing store on U.S. 51, which is scheduled to undergo renovations. No date has been set for that work to begin. The west side of I-55 at Ridgeland gets a grocery store in March. The Fresh Market will open March 5 in Renaissance shopping center at Old Agency Road and Highland Colony Parkway. Each store in The Fresh Market chain is designed with the atmosphere of an old world European market.

Madison Ms. Voted Top 10 Cities

MADISON MS NAMED ONE OF
AMERICA’S TOP 10 CITIES FOR FAMILIES
Family Circle has named Madison, MS one of the Top Ten Towns for Families in America. Family Circle Magazine, working in conjunction with On Board, a New York City based research firm, delved into the things American most want in a hometown. Their results culminated from “a first of its kind investigation to identity the best communities across the country that combine big city opportunities with suburban charm.” They sought out “locations that offer an ideal blend of good jobs, top rated schools, wide open spaces and a lot less stress.” Their findings and the ten cities appeared in the August 2007 issue of Family Circle.
The Family Circle and On Board’s ten top towns came from “a list of 1,850 places with populations between 15,000 and 150,000.” From that list, “800 localities were selected based on family-friendly criteria including low crime rate, health care, air quality, green space, schools, and jobs and Madison, MS was selected to rub shoulders with 9 other top rated cities. Family Circle assessed which towns best met those standards and ranked them according to state. The winners were selected from the highest-rated towns in the top 10 states nationwide.
Madison, MS Mayor, Mary Hawkins Butler said she was humbled by the announcement. “It is an honor to be chosen as on of Family Circle’s inner circle of cities. Their definition of ideal hometown life is very true to our daily dreams and desires for Madison. Family Circle said that in all the ten cities selected, Moms and Dads are hands on – they volunteer in schools and coach sports. Of course, volunteerism is what really makes a community. Churches and the volunteer spirit are in essence the backbone of any town. I salute Family Circle for understanding this and for caring about hometown America in such a special way. I am grateful for all the benefits that Mississippi brings in to the life of every community. This is the people’s award.”
Congratulations, Madison, MS, you are a beauty Queen among cities!
